My Garden Herbs
By Rene Foreman of Airload Environmental ltd
Herbal teas, also known as tisanes, are infusions made from plants, leaves, flowers, seeds, fruit, roots,or other plant parts. Even though they are called herbal "teas" they do not come from the tea plant. Here are some common Herbs Grown by me Mint is the common choice in many herbal gardens because it’s very easy to grow it either in the outdoors or in an indoor pot. Jasmine tea has a fruity and exotic flavor, its climbing flower does best in a tropical herbal garden and will never survive a British winter, therefore if you wants to keep a jasmine plant, you should Plant it indoors. Lavender makes a good herbal tea. Lavender is immediately recognizable by its purple blooms and its summertime fragrance. Dried or fresh lavender will freshen up your room or garden and repels moths and other insects. Chamomile is one of the all time greats. It is an annual, so if you want its tea all year round, you should grow it indoors. Chamomile tea is very soothing and will help you to relax and drift off to sleep and is also a good tea to take for a sore throat. Chives can be grown indoors and out. Chives are rich in vitamins A and C, potassium, and calcium. They are grown for the flavour of their leaves, which is reminiscent of onion, but much milder. Both the stems and light purple flowers can be used for cooking and Chives lose their flavour with long cooking times so it is best to use them at the end of the dish. My herb garden is looking good. My most used herb is mint(Mojito), I like to use spearmint for its strong flavorer, It is known as the king of the mints, But you must watch your mint plants, Because they can take over your garden in no time, I plant mine with the chives, Because it seams to control the mint Growth. My Mojito Recipe spearmint,Brown Sugar,Lime Juice,Light Rum,ice Mash the mint and brown sugar together. Add light rum and lime juice and pour over the ice and enjoy. |
