Dogs Are For Life
By Rene Foreman
Let me tell you about my day with my dog Kingston, He is a Staffordshire bull terrier crossed with a rottweiler and he looks mean, But he is the softest dog I have owned, In the past i had a German Shepard bitch called Sadie, She was an ex army reject puppy and did not get on well with other dogs, Anyway back to Kingston because of all the dog attacks in the UK recently when ever I walk him I get dirty look by other dog owners and people walking by. I don’t get it, he does not growl/bark at them or lunge at them and I still get dirty looks. the other day I was walking him in the park when 2 jack russells came running over jumping and growling at him in a nasty way so he growled back and to my disbelief the owner came over and said he was a nasty dangerous dog and I should put him down, I could not believe it, This silly women lets her dogs off the lead in the park and they run around growling at other dogs and she says I should put mine down. Anyway this is the feeling of most people in the UK if he looks dangerous he must be. This is section 1 of the dogs act in the UK Section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 prohibits four types of dog: the Pit Bull Terrier type the Japanese tosa type the Dogo Argentino type the Fila Brasileiro type So it is important to note that, in the UK, dangerous dogs are classified by “type”, not by breed label. This means that whether a dog is considered dangerous, and therefore prohibited, will depend on a judgment about its physical characteristics, and whether they match the description of a prohibited 'type'. This assessment of the physical characteristics is made by a court. The 1991 Act was amended by the Dangerous Dogs (Amendment) Act 1997. The 1997 Act removed the mandatory destruction order provisions of the 1991 Act by giving the courts discretion on sentencing, and re-opened the Index of Exempted Dogs for those prohibited dogs which the courts consider would not pose a risk to the public. Only courts can direct that a dog can be placed on the list of exempted dogs. So after reading that would you say that my dog Kingston fits the type? |

This is just discrimination, on a canine level but discrimination ain't nothing new. Haters be haters buddy, bend with the wind and let it go. What matters is how Kingston feels about you, and vice versa, not what the assorted nitwits and nincompoops think. Stay cool.

He sure doesn't! Thanks for the intel, I'll be sharing my experience with dogs very soon also. I currently have a blue nose pit bull that looks something like a gorilla. Yet he can grab a grape with his mouth without making a dent on it. I believe from experience that dogs are a product how their owners raise them. Starting from healthy physical activity.

Too bad they don't have a "Prohibition on Mean Looking Judges Act". If they did have such and act, there are quite a few judges that should be "put down".
