Doggy O,C,D Osteochondritis
By Rene Foreman of Airload Environmental Ltd
Well let me tell you about Osteochondritis and my dog Kingston he was 1 year old when he started limping on his front right leg. So I took him to the vet and to my surprise the first thing the vet said to me was his he insured and my answer was no, But I was putting money in a saving account for him, Well let’s start with the bad news because he is crossed with a Rottweiler he may have Osteochondritis This is a disorder of immature long bones seen primarily in dogs, horses and even humans. It is due to a various set of circumstances which include diet, trauma, genetics, body size and weight. Growing long bones may develop cracks in the cartilage of the weight bearing surface. These cracks may extend deep to the soft (cancellous ) bone beneath the cartilage and eventually a section of the joint cartilage will separate from the underlying structure. The cartilage flap varying in size from less than a quarter of an inch to over an inch in diameter acts as an irritant in the joint. Subsequent inflammation and attempts at healing lead to scar tissue and calcium deposits in the affected joint. So we need to x-ray him to see how far it’s got. Now for the good news the vet tells me because he is 1 year old Osteochondritis is normally found in puppies aged between 3 to 8 months. So 2 days later I take Kingston to the vets for an x ray and 6 hours and £450.00 pound later the vet tells me he's torn his ligaments in his front right leg and it should be ok in about 4 to 6 weeks, He gave me some Rimadyl a 2 week supply and said if he gets worse to bring him back, I asked the vet about Osteochondritis and he said he did not know, The x ray looks normal so we will have to see, It’s been 1 year on now and touch wood he been ok. One thing that I have done is to change Kingston's diet, I was feeding he iams, But now I feed him Royal Canin breed specific Rottweiler food because of the muscle benefits Cardiac tone - Helps support this athletic dog's cardiac functions. Muscle dynamism - Includes increased protein content, the essential component of the muscles, and increased L-carnitine. Joint support - Increased levels of chondroitin, glucosamine, EPA and DHA help maintain mobility. This seems to have done the trick because he is now fit, healthy and his coat shines like gloss, you can see him on my squidoo page; check out the hd video of him ripping up turf after chasing a rabbit down a hole its funny

I did check out the video and the first thing I noticed is the glossy sheen on his coat, he's a beautiful looking animal, isn't he? I shall have to rob a few banks and try Royal Canin for my own mutt.
